How quickly things can change

I woke up yesterday morning with muscle aches. This escalated into a fever of 101.2 by 1:30pm. Karen and I went to the hospital to have it looked at. After some blood work, they found that my white counts were at 600, significantly lower than the 1000 minimum. They put me on about 5 different antibiotics through my PORT. They finally moved me from the ER to a hospital room at 2am. The fever was really not managed until around 6am. It was a huge relief when it came down. It's almost 11 now and I am tired, but cannot sleep due to a headache.

In a nutshell, I have learned a valuable lesson regarding the importance of remaining isolated from germs. The train show on Sunday was clearly a bad idea.

  1. You beat me to the post! I got called away to attend to my sick child who probably also caught something from the train show.

To give you an idea of the source, imagine a play area 20 by 40 feet filled with toy trains and 50 small, sniffling children wiping their noses on their hands and then grabbing trains from each other. You couldn't spread disease any faster unless the were actually licking each other's hands, which some of them may have been doing. In hindsight, I'm surprised only three out of our group got sick from it.

    Get better soon!

  3. Hey there I-Run Man. Laying around in a hospital bed is definitely not part of the program. I'm willing you deep sleep and strength to beat this fever business (and you know I'm a willful person). Before you get home I'm going to sterilize your house and flee the city with your children. Should I take the dog too? I'm counting on you being all better when we come back. Much love to you, Lisa
